23rd Annual CRC Streams Cleanup
Saturday, March 20, 2021
9:00-11:30am
It’s so much fun to be in the stream, enjoying nature, and making a difference!
Join CRC Watersheds Association on Saturday, March 20th to help clean our streams.
We need volunteers throughout the Chester, Ridley and Crum Watersheds
to clean over thirty streams sites!
Find a cleanup site near you and sign up to be a volunteer and/or sponsor
by visiting our website at www.crcwatersheds.org.
CRC’s programs improve the source of our drinking water and restore and protect our natural resources – benefiting everyone in the three watersheds and beyond!
Thank you!

Please join us for the 22nd annual stream cleanup at Smedley and other parks. You can sign up by clicking here and filling out the form. At the event, it is all about saying hello to fellow people who care about the park and picking up trash that can find it's way into the water or mess up the park. Looking forward to seeing you there! http://www.crcwatersheds.org/index.php?s=14#signup
An article in the Daily Times posted yesterday, March 25, 2019, reports an effort to establish an animal control center in Smedley Park. This center would handle the collection, and processing of stray and feral animals; owner surrendered animals; injured and ill domestic animals as well as vicious ones. The county is proposing that these services be provided by an independent company / operator which would lease the existing three garage door building across from the parking lot next to the trolley stop. The center would have a 24 hour dispatch service for the entire county as well as a spay and neuter program. These services were previously provided by the Delco SPCA which has since changed its operating mission and not longer serves in this capacity. The SPCA also changed its name to the Providence Animal Center. The Friends of Smedley Park group was not aware of this initiative and is currently assessing the impact such a facility would have on the master plan for the park as well as use of the southern picnic and playground areas. There is limited space along Paper Mill Road for such an operation and the introduction of such a facility in a family oriented park would not be appropriate . There is a short period of time for public comment to be provided to the committee established by the County Council. We ask that everyone please share this and make your voices heard. Please take a moment and send feedback to County Council. The following link provides the feedback form for public comment on the proposed Animal Control Center in Smedley .
